If you have 60,000 to 70,000 thoughts a day, which thoughts are you choosing to create your reality?
Do you ever find yourself saying:
You want more clients but you fear rejection
You want to earn more money but you feel financial lack
You want to share your gifts and talents but you don’t feel you’re good enough
You want to make a difference but you’re scared of being judged
I have experienced all these situations and more. There are occasions when I still do. When I decided to start my own business, all of the above kept me stuck, slowed me down and even stopped me.
What I didn’t realise is how powerful my thoughts are and how they create my reality. Your thoughts will determine what actions you take and the actions you take will determine how you feel.
When I decided to start exercising again. I remember saying ‘I need to do my exercise this morning but I’m feeling tired’. That feeling of tiredness generated another thought which is ‘I really should exercise but my body does feel sluggish’. Followed by ‘I can do my exercise later when my body feels more energised’ and I ended by saying ‘it’s now too late to exercise, I’ll do it tomorrow’.
When your thoughts are not aligned with how you are actually feeling, taking the right action will always be challenging. Your recurrent thoughts, behaviours and feelings create your habits. Most of them tend to be unconscious and repeated over time.
The reality is your habits create your state of being. Most of your habits have been programmed into your subconscious mind which means the majority of the time you are running on autopilot.
What thoughts do you repeat on a day to day basis?
In business when you have a task in front of you that takes you outside of your comfort zone, e.g. writing your first blog, creating a new offer or contacting a client, you may find yourself procrastinating and having the following thoughts:
This task is too big
I don’t know what to do
I’m never going to be able to do this
What if I get this wrong?
What if nobody buys it?
What if they say no?
Your Thoughts Generate Your Actions
These thoughts are likely to lead to the following actions:
Making another cup of coffee
Putting the laundry on
Checking your emails
Checking your social media accounts
Tidying up
Your Actions Determine How You Feel
When you act in this way you are likely to experience feelings of self-doubt, lack of focus, frustration, impatience, overwhelm, lack of confidence, worry and anxiety and you will start to procrastinate even more. These feelings will start to deplete your energy levels and drain you emotionally.
If you want to feel different, you have to change the way you think.
You can do this in a number of ways.
Spend time setting your intentions for the day
Ask yourself what would be a greater expression of myself as I go through my day.
Keep a journal
Create affirmations which inspire and motivate you
Read pages from a book that expands your learning
Listen to uplifting music (my favourite – Can’t Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake)
Watch your mind movie (click the link for more details)
Connect with your vision, purpose and goals
The ones in colour are the practices that I have incorporated into my daily routine. There may be more.
